The Origin

Why GMTech Exists

The AI industry has a problem. Every company selling AI tools has a financial reason to tell you their tool is the best one. Every benchmark is run by someone with skin in the game. Every "impartial" review is written by someone who took the affiliate deal.

Bennett Bakke spent 25 years watching this pattern play out across every major technology wave — the early web, mobile, cloud, and now AI. Each time, the people who got left behind weren't the ones who refused to adopt. They were the ones who adopted the wrong thing, on the wrong timeline, from the wrong source.

When the AI models became genuinely useful — not just impressive in demos, but actually useful for real business tasks — Bennett started testing them the same way he'd always approached new technology: systematically, skeptically, and without a preferred outcome.

What he found was a gap. Most business owners had no reliable way to evaluate these tools. The information available was either too technical, too promotional, or too generic to be actionable.

GMTech is the answer to that gap. A platform built to replace guesswork with data. A team with no agenda except getting you to the right answer faster.

Early 2000s
Early internet era. Bennett builds some of the first web and mobile interfaces as the consumer internet takes shape. Learns firsthand how new technology gets overhyped, poorly adopted, and eventually sorted out by practitioners who do the actual work.
2000–2020
25 years of shipping. Applications across web, mobile, and enterprise. Watching technology waves come and go — and watching businesses succeed or fail based on how they adopted them.
2022–2023
AI becomes real. Not demo-real. Work-real. Bennett starts systematically testing models for real business tasks. The findings are striking: quality varies wildly, costs vary more, and almost nobody is publishing honest comparisons.
2023
GMTech is built. AI Lab launches as a multi-model workspace — the tool Bennett had been wishing existed. No subscription sprawl, no markup on API costs, no agenda.
2024–2025
Services added. Clients start asking for what Bennett had been doing internally: audit the workflow, run the comparisons, tell me what the models actually say about my brand. The AI Visibility Report and Workflow Audit are formalized.
Now

Bennett's career tracks the arc of the internet. He was there when consumer websites were novel, when mobile meant something different than it does today, and when the question wasn't "which AI should we use" but "what even is this."

That history matters. It means he's watched every major technology wave hit businesses — and learned to distinguish between what's hype and what's actually going to change how work gets done. AI crossed that line. He started paying close attention.

What he found when he started testing AI models seriously was a problem he recognized from every prior wave: the people with the most to say about the technology were the people selling it.

GMTech is his answer to that. A platform with no model company affiliations and no financial stake in which tool wins. A consulting practice that starts with your actual prompts, your actual workflow, and your actual brand — and tells you what the data shows.

His operating principle has been consistent across 25 years: lower the bar. If the technology is useful, more people should be able to use it.
